Kaumātua o Tamaterau Life stories through the lens
An extension of the popular 2021 Kāumata o Tamaterau Life stories & Photographic Exhibition, this very special limited edition book has just been reprinted, this very special taonga features lived experience oral-history stories as told by a select number of local Māori whose families have remained living, occupying, and farming their ancestral lands for more than five generations.
With a combined age range spanning ninety-three years, the people featured in this book have been witness to significant changes through the decades of their lives. Their stories guarantee to transport readers back to past lifetimes when life was about working hard, living simply, appreciating the abundance of both land and sea, the importance of living together, sharing resources, supporting each other, and contributing to being part of a community.
Sadly since the book was first published, two of the people featured in it have since passed away, hi-lighting the importance of capturing life-stories before they are lost to us forever.
